The traditional block printing process involves mixing together natural dyes, which may be plant-based or vegetable-based. Once the fabric is printed, the craftsman scatters some fine sawdust onto the wet dye to prevent smudging off the design. The printed fabric is sun-dried for a significant amount of time so that the colours look brighter and lively. The traditional colours used for block printing are red, black, brown, mustard and orange. How long does it take to create a piece of the wooden block? - The process of designing and creating a wooden block can take 9 to 12 days, depending on the complexity of the design.
